Personal Description:

I am a graduate from the University of Glasgow with a degree combining both English and Comparative Literature (the latter involving the analysis of texts translated into English from a variety of foreign languages) I have experience of working with primary school children all the way up to students at university… as well as 7 years of experience working with children who have autism. I love English - the words, the characters, the creativity - and always enjoy an opportunity to share my enthusiasm with others. I believe that studying English Literature does not have to be met with the dread that many people feel - it can (and should!) be a lot of fun!

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience of classroom teaching and assisting in various schools in Glasgow. I have been doing one-to-one tutoring for over six years now and have worked with a variety of students including those with additional support needs. After graduating from university, I spent two years working through an organisation amongst students in the Glasgow area with a focus on personal development and study skills. I have also worked as a piano and violin tutor for two years, teaching beginners from the local primary school.

Tutoring Approach:

This depends on the tutee and their stage of development - I believe different approaches and techniques work for different people, there is not a 'one size fits all' rule! I adopt a relaxed and positive approach to tutoring, with a focus on the enjoyment and person development of the pupil.

Sessions will not be terrifying or needlessly intense! They will be structured, well prepared and will involve working with the student to create and achieve personal targets. I am passionate about creating self-confidence in my tutees and this can be done simply through a tailored and unique approach to a previously loathed subject! Whichever aspects of English Literature you struggle with with, I am confident that I can help you see a difference.
