Sarah

Private English (Foreign Language) Tutor in Clapham

My name is Sarah. I have lived in London all my life, and I love London, because of the diversity of the people who live here, and the many people from all over the world who come to visit. I enjoy meeting new people, and normally I rent a room in my house that I let to Airbnb guests, but unfortunately at the moment I am missing those guests. For the last 10 years my main job has been in theatre. I book and organise tours for groups of visiting children, from both the UK and abroad.I love attending theatre, and museums. I often take my Airbnb guests on tours of London. I always enjoy seeing their reaction to the many delights of London.

Tutoring Experience

I taught for many years in Further Education, teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL), and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). I have taught learners from many different countries, of all backgrounds, abilities and ages. I am experienced in the full suite of EFL and ESOL qualifications at all levels including Cambridge EFL and IELTS, and ESOL Skills for Life .
More recently I have taught ESOL, on site, in the Hilton Hotels, to behind the scenes staff enabling them to improve their English for their job.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach varies according to the students. When teaching groups I like the activities to be varied and fun, but to allow all students to get involved I find the instructor led approach is more valuable. One to one classes can be more flexible according to the learner's need. I always try to keep it learner and content centred, so the lesson has relevance to the students. For both groups and individual classes I start with a casual chat, assessing and agreeing the student's needs, creating a scheme of work that can be followed, and used to assess progress.
