Personal Description:

I am a PhD qualified Chemist who is currently Head of Chemistry at a secondary school in North London. I love my job because I love science. I have a passion for science which I enjoy sharing with the kids I teach. I feel that my research experience has helped with my teaching of A-level as I can relate the science they learn to the real world and inspire them as to what they can do in the future with their science qualifications. In my previous school role as deputy head of sixth form I am also heavily involved in helping 6th formers which is experience I feel would greatly help any tuteewith their UCAS application.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been a teacher in North London for 8 years. Have taught Chemistry at A-level for 8 years and Physics at A-level for 3. I gained my additional specialism in Physics by attending a course ran by the instutute of Physics over a year at the Science Learning Centre at the Institute of Education. I teach general science up to GCSE level which included Biology. I have also got experience teaching iGCSE Chemistry and BTec Science.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to teach is a pupil centred method. I wish to enthuse the pupils with my love of science but need them to come to me with their problems identified. If not I will seek to identify the problems with them. I believe pupils need to be actively engaged in their learning and take ownership of their progress. They must wish to be aware of their own strengths and weakness and develop strategies for learning. I feel I can help with this and set them up to be independent learners. There are as many learning styles as their are pupils and while I would share my preferred methods I am flexible as I have had to be when teaching classes of 30.
