Information About Samuel - Fulham tutor
I am currently a student in my final year studying at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Music on the Physics and Music course. I have personal experience of going through the English schooling system having left College three years ago and have a very flexible working schedule due to the nature of the music aspect of my course.
My specific interests in physics are particle physics and the workings of the universe and I am fascinated by the fundamental nature of how things work. Other than this I enjoy listening to music ranging from classical to jazz and rock.
I currently tutor in and around Fulham. Through studying physics I have gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in the theoretical side of physics and applications of physics and maths and have also applied this to helping some friends who have sat GCSEs and A levels in the last few years. I have always strived not just to pass exams but to thoroughly understand the subject at hand as this leads to a both a broader knowledge base and eventually a better exam mark. This approach generally requires a longer learning period but comes with a greater benefit and hence I am very confident in my knowledge of the subject material I have learnt and believe that this is beneficial when teaching someone else. I would argue that without fully understanding something one should not teach it.
I have also had experience teaching music performance to groups and individuals which is experience I can draw on as a large part of tuition is being able to clearly express yourself.
As hinted at above I do believe that in both maths and physics it is best to teach understanding of a subject rather than state facts. Although individual facts are needed in any academic subject, this approach can be taken too far and the condensing of an entire year or two into bullet points or formulae which must be learnt is pointless and difficult to achieve. As an example, I have found that even exams in my degree have required a handful of formulae to be memorised and from this most other required information can be found by application of knowledge.
