Personal Description:

Hi there! I am an enthusiastic, approachable and experienced teacher and I currently teach English at Exeter School. I hold a BA hons in History and Masters degree in History and Politics from the University of Exeter and I was graded outstanding for my PGCE in Secondary History.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught English, History and Politics over the course of the last eight years at three high performing selective schools.

2010- 2013: I taught History and Politics at Torquay Boys' Grammar School across the 11 - 18 age range. Examined modules included Crime and Punishment, Henry VIII, Superpower Relations, The Cold War, the Vietnam War, 20th Century Conflict (IB) and British political systems and political ideologies.

2013 - 2017: I taught History and Politics at The King's School in Chester (a selective, independent day school) teaching a range of examined modules for IGCSE and A Level including Germany 1919 - 89, the French Revolution, Civil Rights in America, British and American Political Systems.

2017 - present: I teach English at Exeter School and I am fully conversant with CIE IGCSE English Language and Literature and the new AQA 9 - 1 GCSE in English Literature and Language.

In addition to teaching, I am also an experienced exam marker for Edexcel (GCSE: Paper 1 and Paper 2, A level: Paper 2 Fascist Italy and Paper 3 Ireland) and AQA (GCSE: English Language, A Level History: Component 2: The Cold War)

Owing to my experience in selective education, I am able to provide tutoring for the English and Verbal Reasoning element of the Common Entrance Exams (11+) used by the independent and grammar schools in the local area.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is centred on the understanding that sessions will be tailored to suit the needs of each individual student. I offer a complimentary introductory session to find out what areas students need help with and how they prefer to learn.

I create personalised materials for each session to include a range of interactive activities. I incorporate a mixture of content revision and exam technique into sessions so that students understand what they need to know and how they need to apply their knowledge in an exam. I am able to use my experience as an examiner to offer an insight into exam technique.

Please do get in touch to discuss your tuition requirements!
I look forward to hearing from you.
