Government and Politics
My specialism is English language but throughout my degree I explored: sociological, historical and political modules. Through these avenues, I found that I have an ardent interest in human rights - this led me into teaching. My appetite for challenge was met when I completed the TeachFirst leadership development program in July 2016. Recently, I have started Crossfit training which is a combination of gymnastics, weight lifting and high intensity training. I'm a keen skier and love to be outside as much as possible.
For two years I taught at a challenging school in Hastings. When I started, it was found that 63% of the children who live in Hastings, live in poverty. The local challenges in the community and the diverse range of emotional and learning needs of my students helped my resilience and adaptability as a teacher. In August the results from my first GCSE class showed that 75% received A*-C. During my time at the school, I had a whole school role as the debate leader and MUN co-coordinator. My success in this role was proven when the debate team came first in a competition. In July 2015 TeachFirst's innovation unit awarded me funding to run a bespoke resilience program at my school.
It is my firm belief that joy is the optimum learning environment. Through this I will use a range of tasks, activities and styles to suit the tutee - but my teaching is always driven by the objective and knowledge/skills essential for the exam.
