Private Maths and Physics Tutor in Belper

I am an experienced teacher of 14 years, with the good fortune to have worked with a wide range of pupils, with varying abilities, backgrounds and ages.

I hold a 2:1(Hons) degree in Astrophysics and Geology and a PGCE in Secondary Science which means I can help with many aspects of Maths and Physics up to A level. It has been over a year since I have taught Chemistry or Biology but please do let me know if this is something you need and we can discuss. I also hold a CELTA certificate which qualifies me to teach students with English as an Additional Language or Science to EFL students who want to improve their specific English skills before studying at university.

I am highly passionate about teaching and thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to teach one on one. I love to meet and work with all kinds of people, to share ideas and experiences and to achieve success together.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught an equal amount of A level and GCSE so am thoroughly prepared to teach at any level from KS3 onwards. In my current role I teach KS4 and KS5 Physics AQA specifications. In my previous role I had the sole responsibility of teaching and managing AQA A level Physics so am aware of all the specific requirements for the exams and coursework.

I have enjoyed being a personal tutor for many years now, and have many success stories to tell for lots of students. I have teaching experience in six different secondary schools and a number of primary schools including SEN. I have worked as a TA and a personal tutor as well as a teacher so I know the many different techniques and approaches needed in order to help each individual.

I am familiar with AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR Science and Maths exam specifications, as well as the new iGCSE specifications. I have done a lot of work with the new style Science examinations, and have the evidence that I can help students to overcome the changes and difficulties involved. I can also help with all aspects of controlled assessments and coursework so that students do not feel as pressured in the limited time they have in class.

I have done home tutoring and homestays for a number of foreign students as a TEFL teacher as well as residential courses for English students who would like to learn about Science or Maths in context.

I have taught in Italy and Kenya, in both primary and secondary schools and as a personal tutor, which I believe only adds to my awareness and the number of ways I can bring education to life!

Tutoring Approach

Personal tutoring is only a success if it is a partnership. I make sure to assess the needs of the tutee before devising a program specifically for them, and to continually evaluate and share both intentions and progress with either the tutee or the parents.

A program can be devised for almost any puropse - whether it is Summer preparation for the courses ahead, continual weekly help or last minute preparation for exams!

I believe in bringing Science to life - it is my passion and, with the opportunity to tutor one on one, I make sure I take full advantage of the opportunities to apply Science to all aspects of life. This has proven to be successful with the understanding and access of knowledge with all my prior students.

I make sure each lessons contains different learning styles, and make sure to take full advantage of each students best ways of learning. In using keyword approaches, exam technique and keeping close to the specification, I also make sure students are fully rehearsed in knowing what the exam requires of them and how to apply the knowledge they gain as well as knowing how to put this on paper in the way that will get them full marks!

For all students, I believe it is important to bring creativity and cross curricular themes into each subject I teach in order to make it relevant. This can especially be useful when adapting a specific program to suit the needs of each student - for example in combining Maths application with Physics for A Level preparation, or bringing languages and creativity into the primary curriculum in order to keep an open and inquisitive mind.
