This is how 2 referees rated Sam:
As a MMath Mathematics student at UoL, I have an infectious passion for mathematics, and spreading mathematical literacy and confidence by encouraging understanding over rote memorization. Through tutoring, I hope to build experience for a career in mathematics education.
Together we can master all the techniques and skills required for GCSE and A-level maths. I taught myself A-level maths recently to get myself into university to study maths, so I have clear, vivid memories of what it is like to be approaching a lot of these subjects for the first time!
Though I don't have formal experience yet, I have helped many of my colleagues, friends, and learners online with the maths they don't understand. I have been often complimented on my ability to explain.
We'll work together to discover how we can best use the time we have and produce a plan for our sessions. I believe that challenging yourself, trying, and possibly getting it wrong are important steps toward learning anything - it is all part of the journey, so you need never feel like you are being "assessed".
I believe it is important to bring the maths into context. Sometimes, this means practical applications, perhaps a historical anecdote of how this maths was used or discovered. Other times, it's about putting it into the context of the maths the tutee may learn in the future.
I also have all the technology required to deliver fruitful tuition over the Internet, including a webcam, microphone, and graphics tablet which allows me to turn my computer into an “online blackboard” using Google Hangouts, which allows me to display my computer screen to you. I am also able to type-set high quality notes for my tutees.
