Personal Description:

I split my time between tutoring a select group of students, and working as a consulting Finance Director. Tutoring for me is a vocation - see below for more about my approach. If you are interested, please message sooner rather than later; in peak periods I end up with waiting lists.

When not working, I enjoy skiing, scuba diving, cycling, tennis, escape rooms, and am a member of an a cappella choir. I enjoy learning foreign languages and travelling.

Case studies of my tutoring experience include:

GCSE (French - final year)

Dani was consistently achieving an E grade despite working hard. In 3 sessions, we worked on improving her vocabulary, writing technique and grammar, as well as her accent and confidence. At the end of the tuition she achieved a B grade.

Degree-level (Physics)

Nathan was tutored over a number of hourly sessions during his Physics degree at Imperial College, London. I helped him with exam technique, boosting his confidence and ensuring he was focused, as well as explaining topics he had previously struggled to grasp. His grades improved (by a couple of levels) from what he would otherwise have achieved.

A-level (Maths)

Vinay was struggling with past papers, and it was affecting his confidence. On his final test before finishing with me he achieved 97%.

Online (A-level Maths)

I tutored Cate in Maths online via Dubai, resulting in her achieving an A and successfully getting into MIT.

GCSE (Maths - year 10)

Rory was lacking confidence in his Maths. I quickly identified and started to fix the gaps in his knowledge; this has given him a huge confidence boost as we continue. After two months, he moved up a set.

A-level Physics

Hugh was struggling with A-level physics achieving a C. By the end of our tuition, approaching his exams, he was on course for an A.

Kaya (13+ Science Scholarship and Interview Skills)

I have helped Kaya to earn a Science scholarship. Not only feel confident on the 13+ syllabus, but taken him beyond it; we have covered quite a lot of GCSE content. I have also stretched him by getting him to engage in scientific debate, improving his awareness of issues and getting him to see the many aspects where Science interacts with the world in fascinating ways. This has included improving his interview skills.

GCSE (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology - Final Year)

Dmitry wanted support in his half term to improve his confidence in advance of deciding whether to go for triple or double science. Over 4 days we covered maths, biology and chemistry. I helped him reduce silly mistakes, improve his English started to build his ability to break down complex mathematics problems. He has requested to be tuition to continue in 2017.

Eugene (Degree level corporate finance)

I helped Eugene both to learn and apply some very complex corporate finance concepts, and also helped him with his English (it not being his native tongue).

SEN

I have worked with Rohan, who struggles to conceptualise and apply maths. Last year he went from an E to a C.

Professional Level - Accounting and Finance

I have tutored CIMA, ACCA and ACA modules.

Tutoring Approach:

There are three things that make me a great tutor (and give me a love of tutoring):

 I love understanding how people learn and what they're interested in - what makes them tick, their interests, how they learn, concepts they understand.

 I find it fun, challenging and rewarding to take (often difficult) concepts and reframe them in terms that the tutee may have to date have had difficulty understanding. There is no greater reward than seeing someone "get" something they've previously struggled with and the encouragement and self-belief that they get from that. It is the reason I previously did so much voluntary work; it is a vocation, not a job.

 I have the strong academic base knowledge across a range of subjects that allow me to draw on my experience to facilitate both of the above.
