Hello! I'm Sally, I'm 18 and in my first year at Lancaster University. I'm passionate about English and one day hope to be an English teacher so that I can share my love with others and inspire confidence in learners. English is such a vast subject that I think you could study it for years and still find new and exciting aspects - I hope to continue learning and sharing my learning for the rest of my life. I achieved an A* in both English language and English literature at GCSE and an A at A-level in both subjects; my favourite book is The Handmaid's Tale.
I am fully DBS checked and can provide evidence of this.
I have carried out several work experience placements within schools, including shadowing teachers within primary and secondary schools. Furthermore, I have worked for a year at Explore Learning, where I tutor up to 6 children aged 4-14 per hour as well as running specific grammar based workshops focused on the content required for SATs and GCSE exams. I also volunteered in a local Rainbows group for over a year, helping to run activities and games.
I have an individualistic style to my tutoring. Working at Explore taught me that each child has specific needs, for example I could have 6 children in my zone, each learning something different at different levels, but the key is to identify the methods that work best for each child. For me, getting to know the child is key to their learning; if a child is not comfortable they will not learn. This is key in English as the subject is so vast that there will always be an element that the student prefers and other aspects that require more work. Therefore, I feel that my style of tutoring allows for the student to be at ease, happy and confident in the subject.
