Personal Description:

I am currently a first-year University of Leicester student studying Accounting and Finance BSc. I participate in a range of University activities, including attending meetings on academic services due to my role as the course representative, to participating in a variety of sports, including Football, Cricket and Dodgeball. The primary reason I take part in multiple activities is because I consider myself to be a sociable person, meaning that I believe that I have an ability to connect socially with a wide range of people, which is significant in providing tutoring for younger students. Tuition classes are something that I participated in throughout my education and I believe this to be the reason as to why I wish to tutor as it allows me to impart the knowledge to younger students that wish to succeed, the same which others have done for me.

Tutoring Experience:

I have previously acted as a teaching assistant in my secondary school in order to provide help for the newer teachers at the beginning of the year. As I was studying for my A-levels at the time, I was asked to assist in subjects that I previously had studied from the age ranges 11-16 years old. I have also taken part in unofficial and unpaid tutoring for friends and for cousins/and family friends in order to help the younger members of the families to succeed in their exams.

Tutoring Approach:

The approach I take in tutoring students varies with age range, for example, with younger students (e.g. primary school/lower secondary school) I believe in a kinaesthetic and visual learning approach, as younger students tend to be more active than their older counterparts. I have found that younger students learn and remember more whilst being active, hence the approach that I take to younger students. However, with older students my approach becomes much more exam based, with the time being much more crucial in terms of grades and results. I like to take time working on exam-technique as I realise this a key part of A-level exams in particular. Despite my preferred teaching methods, I am willing to attempt to adapt my teaching style dependent on the student in question. As a final note, the core principal that I believe in remains the same for both age groups - 'practise makes perfect,' which means that I will be repetitive with the exercises until I am certain that the student in confident with the module, which, whilst tedious, has been a proven method for me.
