I am an experienced and qualified GCSE and A-Level English Teacher currently working as Head of English at a Secondary school in Bristol (since September 2021).

My previous role was Head of GCSE English at a prestigious and successful International Boarding school in Shropshire (2015-2021).

I am also an AQA GCSE Examiner - and have been for four years - so have comprehensive understanding of mark-schemes and exam techniques.

I live in Bristol and am willing to travel reasonable distances to tutor students as well as offering online tuition.

I can offer up to ten hours of tutoring a week on days which suit the students/parents.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience teaching KS3-5 English Literature and Language and my students have achieved excellent results. Between 2016-19, 98% of my students achieved grades A*-B (Grades 9-6 on the new grading system).
I currently teach the AQA GCSE specification and have previously taught the Edexcel iGCSE specifications and the AQA A-Level specification; however, am happy to work with students studying any other exam boards' qualifications as long as I am informed prior to the first lesson!

Prior to teaching I worked in Academic Publishing and also spent five years working for Edexcel (Pearson) developing GCSE and A-Level qualifications so have a good understanding of how the assessment process works, how question papers are produced and assessment objectives identified.

Tutoring Approach

It's important to get to know the students: their strengths & areas for development, as well as their own preferred styles of working. Where possible, I would like to see previous work of the students' so that I can determine the best way to approach our individual sessions. Specific approaches will also depend on the students' goals - developing particular exam techniques, skills, content knowledge, etc.
I have an abundance of model answers and writing frames to support students, and I am more than happy to mark any work students complete (whether in school, as part of their own revision, or in response to anything we discuss in our tuition sessions).
