After finishing high school I had a keen interest in the sciences so decided to study A-Levels in physics, chemistry and biology. After completing these, I went on to achieve a BSc (Hons) and MChem degrees in chemistry from the University of Bradford. I then sought some industrial experience and worked for an environmental chemistry laboratory.
Thereafter I completed a PhD (doctorate) in synthetic chemistry and most recently a post doctoral research project with the University of East Anglia working with garlic.
I am friendly, kind and outgoing.
My role as senior lab demonstrator involved teaching students both the practice and theory behind organic chemistry. I have supervised laboratory classes of 50-100 pupils and have held problem solving sessions on a one to one and group basis. These sessions were to assist individual students with their coursework, exam revision and core knowledge.
I have also implemented three final year BSc projects and supervised the students progress including their laboratory work and the writing of a dissertation. In my current role as a post-doctoral researcher, I supervise many undergraduate and postgraduate students and assist them with their research projects and offer them feedback and support with their individual projects.
I believe in a student led approach to learning and would seek to ensure the student felt comfortable with the basics before approaching the more advanced principles. Ideally, in the first meeting I would like to gain some understanding about the students needs together with their strengths and weaknesses and what they are aiming to achieve with their tuition. My intention with this approach is to set a clear programme of progression on which I can then prepare the relevant resources. We can use this plan to monitor progress as the sessions advance. I pride myself on having an approachable personality with good communication skills.
