I studied at Leek Art College on a foundation course in printmaking, pottery, sculpture, life drawing, fine art and art history. I later graduated form North Staffs Polytechnic with a degree in Multidisciplinary design where I specialised in illustration. In 2010 I completed an MA in Art Therapy at the University of Derby where I exhibited artwork.
I first began teaching art in HMP and a secure unit for juveniles while studying the first stage of an FE teachers qualification.I have taught art/design adult education courses and water colour painting/art/craft courses for adults and children at Stafford College. I was art co ordinater in a pupil referral unit and children's medical centre until 2012 where I was responsible for teaching the GCSE art exam and key stage 3 curriculum.More recently I have been a tutor for Hays Recruitment agency with a pupil on a one to one basis in GCSE subject including art and have delivered art sessions for 1- 16 year olds at Derby College, Borderland Voices Community arts for health and well being charity. I am currently a private art tutor for a family with children ages ten and eight and art tutor for a group of students with learning difficulties.
My approach to tutoring is to build a positive relationship with students to find out about them, their interests, strengths & weaknesses to assess their level of ability meet individual learning needs. Depending on the age of the students I try to make learning fun and engage them in art activities to improve technical skills by developing knowledge of art/design materials and processes, help build their confidence to feel a sense of success and achievement by giving positive praise and encouragement.
