Personal Description:

I'm a graduate of Warwick University where I read French with Sociology. I studied English, French and History for A Level, and my degree allowed me to pursue my interest in literature and history despite studying a language. I have travelled and lived abroad while at university and afterwards, and I'm going to begin studying law in October this year. I'm very friendly and approachable and have three younger siblings, so I am very used to helping out and being with younger children and teenagers.

Tutoring Experience:

During my travels in the last five months I spent a month being a volunteer teacher at a junior school in rural India. I taught children from the ages of three to fifteen, both in groups and individually. It gave me a strong grounding in adapting to the needs of different children, and the need for good preparation before classes in order to be engaging and effective. In terms of more concrete tutoring experience, I have helped my siblings and their friends with exam preparation and technique.

Tutoring Approach:

I think most importantly there should be an element of fun. Having been tutored myself I know that often when you are struggling with a subject it can become very daunting, and often the most important thing is to build confidence and to try and create enjoyment in the subject. In terms of preparing for exams, I think identifying problem areas and working through them is the best first step, before going onto working with the mark scheme and practicing exam technique and strategies.

Of course, I would want to work closely with parents as well as the tutee to make sure they were getting everything they would want from a tutor, and to adapt the tutoring to work best with how the tutee learns, as this is different for everyone.
