This is how 7 referees rated Roos:
I have lived in holland my whole life and moved to England when I was 16 years old to go to ACM (The Academy of Contemporary Music). I started singing when I was 11 years old and before that I studied the violin from 3 till 11 year old and started playing guitar when I was 14.
I have been performing all my life but I performed regularly in Holland from the age of 14. I have been in a duo with piano and vocals from the age of 12.
When we where 13 we made our first song together and participated in a national contest “NBE” in Holland where you had to write the song for a brass ensemble and participate yourself. We ended up in the Semi-finals and played in Amsterdam as well.
Also I joined an art group and we made an exhibition where I made poems on my own graffiti paintings and made music with them that I played live at the exhibition. This was on my own.
Than when I turned 16 my duo ( RoosenCharley) did two other contests. One was a regional contest “24 Caraats” and we became first in the music section and won 750 euro. And one was National songwriting contest “Kunstbende” and we became 3rd.
After that year I ended my school and decided I wanted to learn better English and learn more about music in every single way. That is where I am now. I think because I have been doing music in Holland and now 2 years in England I got a broad view of music.
I am a starting teacher, I have had one pupil who I taught through the summer and than I have helped my friends with singing these two years.
My approach to Vocal lessons are very up to what you want to learn/achieve. If you want it differently we can always change the lesson around.
Normally I start the lesson with different scales and all kind of exercises that all focus on what is best for your voice. This includes breathing exercises, physical exercises, melodic exercises, pitching, anchoring and a lot more.
I also got professional recording equipment. With that I will record your voice with a song you choose (I will put karaoke in logic). This way you can listen to your own voice and work from there. Also sometimes we can burn the song on a CD and you can take it home. This is very fun, cause in time you will really hear the improvement of your voice and you got something to hold on too and show people!
In my lessons I think it is very important to see your singing as an instrument so really learn good skills to control your voice, but also to be creative and try things out. So when you choose a song you want to work on we don't always have to sing it exactly like the original song. We will really work on your personal voice and your personal sound. And work with your feeling with the song and telling a story.
