I am a lover of sport and maths! I enjoy a variety of sports but when it comes to academic interests I have always enjoyed maths and when I was a student I appreciated the invaluable help my father, who was a maths teacher, was able to give me. I have two grown up children, both did A level maths and one went on to become a maths teacher.
I am not a formally qualified teacher but I do not believe that this is a prerequisite to being an effective tutor on a one to one basis. I have a love of maths and a lot of experience of one to one teaching through helping my two children with understanding maths over many years though GCSE and A' level Maths and believe this experience makes me ideally qualified to be a maths tutor.
My approach to tutoring is to focus on the areas that the tutee is having difficulty understanding and to tailor the tuition according to their specific needs. I favour this flexible approach as it avoids wasting time on areas that the tutee is already comfortable with and delivers the best value for money spent on tutoring.
My other key focus is on the use of mental arithmetic and shortcuts to making calculations which I believe are essential in terms of time saving and checking the validity of answers but also useful in in everyday life.
