Hello I'm Bob! I am currently a third year Mathematics student at the University of Dundee. I am a polite and easy going person looking to help students struggling with their curriculum or push students looking to expand their knowledge further.
Maths has always come easily to me and I enjoy teaching others as I find it an extremely rewarding experience to be able to guide someone who is struggling with a mathematical problem or concept to the correct way of thinking so that they are able to fully understand the method and complete the task with ease.
Although I never had the opportunity for private tutoring in my education, I would always go to my Maths teacher with any problems outside of class time so I know how crucial one to one tuition is in developing a persons ability especially in mathematics, and with this help I achieved an A* at GCSE level Mathematics.
I am flexible in my method and I am able to change my approach dependent on the students ability and individual way of thinking as I know everyone's understanding of Maths is different so I will always find the best way to teach a student.
I have tutoring experience with a student in England who was taking higher tier GCSE Mathematics before I came to university. This, as my first experience tutoring, allowed me to develop my skills and approach to tutoring and find the best way I work with students. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it was rewarding to see the student, who was struggling when I started, gain confidence in her maths and a good understanding of all areas of the course.
At my college I was the prefect for teaching and learning as which I would frequently help out as a teaching assistant in maths classes in the lower school also sometimes taking out students who needed to expand their knowledge further than was done in the classrooms and work through more complicated problems.
I'm very flexible in my approach to tutoring as it depends on the students approach to maths and also learning in general. I feel the most import thing is honest communication with the student about problem areas in maths and focusing on these to build a solid understanding on these topics as well as testing their existing knowledge to build on this and find any difficulties the student has they may have overlooked. Also I believe everyone knows how they learn best and I can adapt my approach to best teach a student in any way they like. Alternatively if they do not know their best learning process yet, I am more than willing to try different approaches until I find one that the student finds the most helpful.
