I recently completed my MRes Masters degree in English at Edge Hill University which specialised in the spelling, grammar and pronunciation of the 19th century.
I enjoy writing blogs about my travels and adventures and playing badminton during my spare time.
My specialism is based on GCSE level English. I have particular experience in developing a pupil’s knowledge in the following:
Of Mice and Men
An Inspector Calls
A View from a Bridge
I have been tutoring since late 2014 and also taught my brother during his GCSE years.
I work at a local college on the TRAC team which provides specialised support for students.
In this role, I provide study workshops and intervention for students on a 1:1 basis across General Education helping students manage workload and deconstruct assignments.
I have both Theoretical and Practical experience in a health and Social Care setting
Prior to meeting with the learner I request an overview on the learner specific needs and which areas they are struggling with in particular. This allows me to tailor my sessions from the start.
I adopt a tailored approach to each learner and establish their personal learning style so that sessions can be moulded to fit the individual.
Once the problem areas have been identified they can be challenged and provided with strategies to overcome them. I then provide the learner with examples of good answers vs bad answers in relation to the exam question explored.
Many marks are lost through simple mistakes and I seek to enable students to address this by giving them the analytical eye required to minimise errors.
In order to ensure my students grasp a complete understanding of the work undertook in the session, homework tasks designed to challenge the tutee are set weekly.
This demonstrates whether the learner can confidently tackle areas previously struggled on or whether more tuition is required in that specific focus.
I take requests for individual topics and areas from parents and pupils.
I also offer assistance with creating CV’s and cover letters
