Malvern Tutor

I am an experienced teacher and tutor, specialising in online tuition by Skype for Philosophy-related A Levels, critical thinking for university admissions tests such as TSA, LNAT and BMAT and English as a foreign language (especially preparation for advanced tests such as IELTS for university study in the UK). I work with young people from about 16 and adults. Beyond tutoring, I am also involved in bringing critical thinking and philosophical ideas to a wider public through my books and online writing.

Tutoring Experience

I have about 20 years' experience of teaching and tutoring in total, some face-to-face and some online. My earlier experience includes teaching in sixth form colleges (16-19) and English as a foreign language. I have also done some university teaching of philosophy, specialising in ethics. Since 2006 I have mainly taught online using Skype or other video-conferencing systems, with individuals and school groups. My A Level teaching experience includes Religious Studies, Philosophy, Critical Thinking and Politics, and I have a wide variety of past resources to draw on in tutoring those subjects. I have also been an examiner for AS Level Critical Thinking, AS/A Level Philosophy and IB Philosophy and a question-setter for the Cambridge Thinking Skills Assessment.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is tailored to each individual student's needs. We can start with a free 15 minute Skype consultation where we can get to know each other and discuss your requirements. You can then book and pay for hours of tuition on my website which can be used as you wish at agreed times, from a single-one off session to a course of a year or more. I can provide resources for basic courses in critical thinking or to cover an A Level syllabus, or if you are preparing for a university entrance test we can also work through papers together to help develop your confidence. If you need help with study skills at university or at A Level I can also read over and feedback on draft essays. I charge the same rate for all levels and subjects, and do not charge extra for reading short essays or other reasonable preparation time.
