Personal Description:

I am a highly experienced A level (and GCSE) Sociology teacher (23 years). My experience working in 6th forms, and as a senior examiner for an exam board, enable me to identify your needs very quickly and so personalise your learning accordingly.
I am a family man with 2 children, one at university, and one in year 11.
I am passionate about sociology and politics. I care about the world and its future.
I am mad about football. I love my music. I also love to travel.
IMPORTANT: I am not allowed to tutor anyone who is studying tha AQA A level Sociology, as I work for that exam board. Therefore I can only tutor students studying sociology A level from other exam boards.

Tutoring Experience:

I have 23 years teaching experience in the secondary sector teaching social sciences, PSHE, and citizenship. I have taught A level sociology in each of those 23 years. I have been an examiner and am currently a senior examiner for one of the A level Sociology exam boards. As such I have a lot of understanding of both the subject content and crucially the exam requirements, skills, tricks and techniques needed to be successful.

Tutoring Approach:

I first aim to establish a good rapport, thanks to my professional and yet accessible manner. I will first enable you to demonstrate what you know and what you can do, in order to "audit" what you'll need from me. Learning about and understanding sociological theories and concepts needs discussion. I strongly believe that 'talk and thought' lead to a better grasp of this subject. I then provide lots of focussed opportunities to write, in an appropriate, sociologically critical style, to deal best with exam questions. Feedback to this writing, both written and oral, is an essential ingredient in order to know how to progress to the next stage.
