Online Maths Lessons

** Covid-19 important update **

Following governmental guidance, I am suspending all face-to-face lessons until further notice.
With school closures from Friday 20 March, I am aware that many schools will be sending work packs for students to use and continue with their education at home. However, I also recognise that many parents will be anxious for their children to receive direct teaching input from a professional educator. I am looking at ways of expanding the online tuition services that I offer and the hours that I can make available to provide such support. I am also looking at varying my tuition fee as a response to this unprecedented situation.
Please get in touch if you think this may be of interest to you.
Kind regards.
Richard

My normal fixed hourly rate is £35 / hour. I always travel to my student homes for Maths tuition. 100% of my students and parents have chosen this as their preference. It is my preference too for a variety of reasons. So I charge a nominal supplement for travel and time of £1 / mile radius of my home, up to a maximum of £5.

Selected Testimonials:

Tutoring Experience

Primary

In 1990 I started teacher training. By 1991 I was fully qualified and headed to the bright lights of London to begin my career. For the next ten years I taught in primary schools at all ages and all levels, from Reception to Year 6.

Special Needs

I was fortunate to work in two wonderful schools dedicated to providing first class education for children with physical, learning and behavioural needs. The character, resilience and positivity shown by many of these children was inspiring and I developed a strong passion for the work. To improve my skills I undertook specialist training relevant to teaching children with a range of Special Educational Needs.

Mathematics

Other interests and passions then led me to a change of direction. I moved across to work as a subject specialist Maths teacher in secondary schools. In that role I could make full use of my expertise in the subject. During a year-long sabbatical from school teaching I had fantastic success as a Maths Tutor in a local college of further education teaching Functional Skills Maths to adults.

Guitar

I have played guitar since my early teenage years and enjoyed teaching many people to learn to play from the very first beginner steps. For eight years I have worked as part of the team on justinguitar – one of the world’s largest guitar tuition websites. In that role I have mentored and coached countless students and written many articles about learning guitar. I have helped to run the forum dedicated to supporting guitar students.

Tutoring Approach

Struggling in Maths?
I can help students to improve their understanding of mathematics and, as a result, their confidence, and grades. Students can make considerable progress in a one-to-one situation. Difficulties can be overcome quickly and areas of concern can be quickly highlighted, by employing a patient and friendly approach.
Whether you need only a couple of intensive lessons on a particular topic or regular support for your studies, I can help you and would be very happy to discuss your requirements in more detail. Whatever your needs, I am confident of helping you to achieve.

· We will work at your own pace
· Our lessons will be planned around you rather than a class of 30
