Personal Description:

I am a young enthusiastic and active tutor, who enjoys learning and teaching. I have been tutoring maths and chess for many years. I have a joint honours degree and a professional background in corporate employment and business. I am open and communicate well with students of all ages and backgrounds. Please note my rate may be subject to additional travel costs outside of a 5 mile or 15 minute travel range.

I have an Enhanced DBS check.

Tutoring Experience:

As I said, I have been tutoring maths and chess for many years. Recently, I have been privately tutoring pupils in maths at key stages 2, 3, GCSE and AS-Level. I have spent some experience days in local secondary schools where I got involved in teaching the pupils and was well regarded.

I am also coaching chess, for which I am a Regional Master, Bristol Champion and regular local league player in this year's winning team. I take on pupils both juniors and adults who want to improve.

I tutor locally at an education centre, for children from 5 to 16, primarily in maths, but also in English. In the corporate world of computing I have had experience teaching people one-to-one in computer applications (inc. ECDL), programming and web development technologies.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a range of teaching methods to find the student's strengths, allowing them the best chance to relax and get the most out of their learning.

I look at what the pupils are finding difficult in their school work and explain useful methods, in a variety of ways, to help them understand. I provide lesson materials and when appropriate I will provide some additional targeted homework (while taking care not to overload the child in a homework heavy school system).

I also explain methods and model answers for previous exam questions and, nearer the exams, go through whole papers as practise. Lessons can be one-to-one or, for a small additional fee they can be in small groups.
