Information About Richard - Cranleigh tutor - (4 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Richard:
I have always been a passionate reader and love introducing other people to the joys of literature. I am a founder of the Cranleigh Writer's Group and I have just finished writing a fantasy novel, which was published this year. I also have had several abridgements of classic novels published by MacMillan. I have recently won a prize in an international poetry competition and won first prize in the Guildford Poetry Competition. My collection of poems, 'Thor's Light' came out in June 2016.
I am married and have three daughters; we live in a village and I am very interested in the countryside and gardening. We also have two cats and I love animals of all types. I spend a lot of time listening to classical music and I like visiting places of archaeological or historical interest.
I qualified as a teacher in 1985 and spent most of my career teaching English and Film Studies in a Sixth Form College. I was head of A Level English Literature and GCSE English Co-ordinator; both roles gave me experience of exam moderation and marking.
I left the college ten years ago, taking early retirement and have been tutoring on a part-time basis ever since. I have enjoyed one-to-one tuition and my students have had good results. Previous parents have been delighted with my work and will happily supply references. Many of my A Level students have gone on to study at top, Russell Group, universities and I have prepared students for Oxford/Cambridge English entrance exams. I also offer advice on personal statements and interview techniques.
I am patient and believe that encouragement brings out the best in students. I foster reading with enjoyment and understanding, using texts as a springboard for good writing practice. I like to work alongside tutees, writing with them to act as a guide.
I teach GCSE English Language and Literature, A Level English Literature and undergraduate Literature. I am afraid I have no experience of teaching A Level English Language and therefore cannot accept students studying for this exam.
