Personal Description:

Full time, professional science tutor with outstanding results. I typically improve my students by two grades.

My name is Rich , I am an exam technique expert and frequently visit schools to give students hep and advice on how to revise and perform in exams. I run an online education company that produces Biology A-Level courses and pairs parents to excellent online tutors (but I can't tell you it's name here).

I have written, filmed and published an online video revision guide for the new AS Biology specification which has received fantastic reviews. I give my tutoring students free access to the course which is worth £500+. I am extremely busy running my education company, tutoring online and touring schools - please confirm I have availability before buying my details.

I'm a young, full time professional tutor with thousands of hours of tutoring experience and a 1st class degree in Biology. I specialise teaching students how to learn and excel in exams. I'm passionate about science and learning, plus I have a scar from a Bolivian puma!

I grew up in Surrey with two teachers as parents. I have always been interested in the sciences and love the conquest of knowledge. After graduating I spent a year working hard and saving funds with the express intention to travel. I subsequently bought a one way ticket to Mexico and spent 2 years travelling south through Latin America. I combine a unique blend of enthusiasm, confidence, youth, experience and reliability that makes my teaching more exciting and highly effective.

I love tea, intelligent conversation, honesty, crosswords, culture, music, science, good food, books, film, board games, browsing in charity shops, exploring (without a map), BBQ's, thinking in the shower and spending time with friends.

I have a degree in Biology and a handy knack for remembering all sorts of interesting bits and pieces. I play a lot of sport and spend as much time as possible outdoors with my friends, I'm forever organising trips away adventures… my current schemes involve taking some friends to dive a wreck in Cornwall.

I'm confident, easy going, full of stories, funny, always thinking and love meeting people. I had a huge snowboarding accident a couple of years ago when I fell 20m down a crevasse and since then I try to make the most of every opportunity possible.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been tutoring science and PE to students with a range of ability since 2010. Alongside my regular students I have increasingly taught various intensive GCSE/A-level revision courses, most recently working alongside the principle examiner for one of the major exam boards. During April last year I totalled more that 100 hours of one-to-one tuition in a month and continue to enjoy great success with all of my students.

I am passionate about science and have a comprehensive knowledge that I draw upon to create interest and inspire students to want to learn. I have adopted an approach to teaching that breaks information down into easily understood sections that relate directly to the specification and mark scheme. This is the ultimately efficient way to learn both in terms of how to pass exams but also for long term memory retention.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is more of a coach than a teacher, this helps to develop trust and lets me work with students not against them. My primary skills are communication and motivation, I find that explaining the reasons for what/why I am teaching has a huge impact on comprehension, it's impossible to learn without understanding.

I teach students how to best help themselves by using the specification as a skeleton and then a mixture of mnemonics, word associations and memory retention techniques to solidify knowledge. This makes understanding and learning new content easier, it is a method that works especially well in the sciences but can also be applied to all subjects with great effect.

Many students have a good level of content knowledge but let themselves down when it comes to answering exam questions. One of the core areas of my expertise is demonstrating the most effective ways to get the most out of exams, how to avoid common mistakes, revision technique, note writing and optimising time organisation. With the right guidance and practise many students can improve their grades significantly (sometimes there are as little as 6 raw marks between a D and a B).
