Personal Description:

A Chemical Engineer by education with a doctorate (PhD) and a Master's (MEng) in Chemical Engineering, both from Imperial College. Extensive tutoring experience worldwide with over the past decade, along with professional experience in the oil and gas industry and academic research.

A philomath with a love for education who believes that fostering genuine curiosity in a tutee by exposing them to people passionate for their subject is central to developing long term academic success.

A diverse array of personal interests, covering many facets of the science and technology and regularly publish in academic journals. Other interests include, travel, horology, photography and also write on those topics. Regularly attend debates and lectures, such as those hosted by Intelligence Squared, of which I am a member, along with other bodies, such as the National Trust and Institute of Chemical Engineers, of which I am a Chartered Member (CEng and MIChemE). A keen interest in sport, enjoying Formula One and playing both touch rugby and rugby union.

**I am available across the UK and internationally to help compliment tutoring programmes, though I do get very busy in the run up to examinations.**

Tutoring Experience:

Ten years of extensive tutoring experience worldwide, covering qualifications from Common Entrance to Graduate degree level. Subjects tutored from 11+ to A Level (and equivalent international qualifications i.e… IB) are: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Tutoring experience has also covered tutoring: Economics to GCSE (and equivalent) level: Statistics, Probability, Business and Finance to graduate level. Experience of providing revision and studying coaching to students from Common Entrance to Graduate level.

**Extensive experience tutoring online (via Skype and FaceTime), which I've found to be an effective way to deliver tutorial programmes, whether to compliment face-to-face session or for an entirely web-based delivery.**

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt an holistic approach, that is centred on fostering academic curiosity and catering for the emotional intelligence of a tutee as well as their cognitive abilities. The approach is based on the underlying notion that for a tutee to develop academically, their EQ must be accounted for, as well as their curiosity nurtured.

My academic approach to tutoring is initially centred developing a tutee's conceptual understanding and subsequent on developing their ability to apply their knowledge to be able to confidently problem-solve, whether it be examination questions or new and unfamiliar problems.

The three main tutee groups that I’ve traditionally work with include:

1. High Achieving Students – Developing and providing advanced learning support programmes to meet the specific needs of academic high-achievers to help nurture talent, enhance their interest and develop their academic skill-sets.

2. Education System Change – Developing and providing tutoring programmes for students who have transferred from one education system to another and need additional support to integrate into the new system, ensuring that any gaps in their knowledge and understanding that arise from the change are identified and addressed. This also extends to students who have changed school and the sequence in which material is different between the schools. The tutees I have worked with in this category have typically been students moving to the UK from Continental Europe.

3. Under Performing Students – This category extends from students who are not currently achieving their maximum potential and require support to bridge any conceptual gaps in their knowledge to developing their ability to apply their knowledge successfully, to those with developmental disorders and behavioural issues.
