I have a bachelors degree in Biomedical Science from University of Manchester and I have gained 5 years experience tutoring both GCSE and A-level Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have experience with different exam boards such as AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas and I have taught over 5000 hours, including face-to-face lessons, classrooms and online sessions.
I started tutoring while I was doing my undergrad and realised how much I enjoyed teaching so I continued tutoring after I graduated. I feel a true sense of job satisfaction with tutoring as I get to help students achieve or exceed their target grades. I also appreciate the flexibility tutoring provides as it has allowed me to continue studying. I have undertaken many exams, especially ones that require writing essays, and I have adopted different learning techniques that proved to be effective as I was able to recall from memory quicker during exams.
I am passionate about the subjects I teach and I try to instil the same enthusiasm in my students as well. I treat each student as an individual and I adjust my teaching style to accommodate their needs and make learning enjoyable.
Generally my lessons include the following:
-I cover topics in details and make sure all the objectives in the specification are understood by the student. I use a digital drawing pad and share my illustrations using platforms such as Skype, Microsoft Teams or Zoom. I also make use of images and animations to help with my explanations since the brain is more likely to retain information when presented with images.
-I periodically ask the student questions on the topic to ensure they are engaged and understand what is being taught. Active recall is an example of a learning method that involves testing yourself regularly, and it works by strengthening the brain's ability to retain and retrieve information from memory. It also strengthens the connections between different concepts in the brain.
-I also share how different learning techniques have helped me, such as the use of mind maps/spider diagrams, Anki flashcards and effective revision timetables.
-I provide topic-based past paper questions for the student to practice in their own time so they grow more confident as they learn how to apply their knowledge to exam questions.
-Finally, after completion of a topic I send a test paper for the student to complete and keep score to see how they are progressing over time.
Please feel free to ask me any questions.
