I am an approachable person, have good communication skills and am extremely well organised. Some of my skills include being able to work under pressure, use of initiative and I enjoy working independently in both a teaching and leadership capacity. I have been able to use my coaching skills over the past few years to really support colleagues and other leaders and have enjoyed this new challenge. I enjoy planning engaging, exciting and purposeful lessons for children to learn from and understand the importance of positive relationships. Wherever possible, I try to make learning real and give opportunities for learning outside the classroom. I have worked and volunteered in various environments in France, Cambodia, Peru and Bolivia, as well as in the UK. My main interests outside working hours include travelling, meeting new people, dog agility, running and reading. I try to get the most out of everything I do, and every opportunity offered to me.
I have been teaching in primary schools in Cornwall, Cheshire and Dorset since 2010. My specialisms include reading skills, grammar and punctuation, maths and French. Most of my teaching experience has been in Key Stage 2 (Y3 – Y6) however I have taught the whole primary age range. I taught English as a Foreign Language in a French secondary school in 2006, and taught English as a Foreign Language at residential summer schools for 6 years. I have been tutoring 1:1 since 2006. I have previously been an Assistant Headteacher at a primary school in Bournemouth.
As a child who needed a tutor when in primary and secondary school, I fully appreciate the benefits that individualised tuition can bring. This could be to improve self belief, to accelerate learning, or to prepare for an entrance test. I am patient and nurturing and like to help children to achieve their best.
