I am a 22 year old postgraduate student studying for my Graduate Diploma in Law. I have been tutoring students between the ages of 5 and 18 for 5 years now and relish the opportunity to meet and work with new students and help them meet their goals.
I myself achieved excellent GCSE and A-Level results and recently graduated from the University of St Andrews with a first-class honours degree in English Literature.
I first got into tutoring via mentoring programmes that my secondary school encouraged me to take part in. I found helping other students really rewarding, and when I commenced my degree started to offer tutoring lessons in English, French and History to a variety of students. I have now worked with around twenty families in total and come really highly reviewed. I am dedicated, good at establishing a rapport with students, and ultimately really invested in making sure students achieve their best potential. At this stage there are few examination boards or qualifications offered in England and Scotland that I don't have some experience of.
For the past two years I have worked at summer schools that focus on leadership and public speaking skills. The Global Young Leaders programme run by Our World English Schools and the debate programme offered by ISSOS have enabled me to develop and improve my teaching style and have meant that I've undergone relevant DBS checks and taken courses in child safety.
My approach to tutoring alters significantly depending on the age and personality of the student. With younger children I try to make lessons fun, interactive and engaging in order to develop a life-long passion for the subject we're covering as well as making real academic progress. By ascertaining favourite periods of history, genres of books or general interests that we can cover in French students 'fear' surrounding a subject they might be weaker at evaporates a bit. It's very rare I think that any student is naturally 'bad' at a subject, they just haven't had the right teacher or discovered why they should care about it and work on it.
With older students I try to be less of a traditional tutor and more of a friend who is helping them out. Sometimes there can be a bit of stigma attached to getting extra help with a subject (which is ridiculous), so building that relationship can help to dissipate any embarrassment or nervousness that they might approach lessons with which would hinder learning. I'm pretty much always contactable, so older students can benefit from contact with me by email or text if they wish allowing them to ask me little niggling questions when they crop up outside of lessons and meaning they can quickly send me homework or coursework they want me to look at in a rush.
Every student is different and learns in a different way and I try to be really adaptable to everyone's quirks. I have quite a significant amount of experience helping students who suffer from dyslexia, particularly when learning foundation English skills or languages.

Update Sept 15 - I just wanted to add that we were delighted that Sophie was able to achieve an "A" grade in her Nat5s after Rebecca's help with tutoring, increasing from a projected "C" at her mocks. We can't thank her enough. A great result - I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rebecca to others.
Rebecca is very professional with a friendly and supportive approach towards the children. I would highly recommend Rebecca to parents in need of Tutor support for their child.
I leave our sessions with drive, having fresh material to study and helpful exercises to complete. Her approach to teaching is refreshing, she is very informative and friendly, creating a wonderful atmosphere in which I enjoy learning.
I feel my grip tightening around the French language and I couldn't have done it without Rebecca, not this fast and not so thorough. She is an amazing tutor; enthusiastic and motivating. I would recommend her to anyone seeking French tuition.
