Personal Description:

I'm a tutor with over three years of tuition experience from Key Stage 2 through to University. I graduated from Oxford University with a BA Hons 2:1 in French and Arabic. I then went on to obtain an MA in Classical Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I am determined in everything that I do. That includes making sure that you achieve the success in the exams or the entrance to the school or university that you want. Together we will succeed! We will do it with hard work and a bit of fun. This has been my approach throughout my own academic career.

I recognise that everyone has his or her own ways of learning and we will build on what works for you. I also understand that in life there are times that we have to study subjects that are not our number one passion. I have had to do that myself and I have developed a range of techniques to make the most of these situations.

I love languages and the arts. I am fluent in French, having worked and lived in France and also speak Arabic and Spanish. I am well read and have a particular interest in English, French and Arabic literature as well as Middle Eastern politics.

At University I combined my academic studies with running the Oxford Art Movement, acting (including touring Japan with the Oxford University Drama Society and performing at the Edinburgh Fringe) and representing my college in sport.

Tutoring Experience:

2015 – present University Tuition
• I prepped a UCL French student for Oral exams, his French discursive essay exam, and literature exams in which he achieved a high 2.1 overall.
• I tutored a student in essay structure for her first year English exams, in which she achieved a mark of 67.

2011 – present University Entrance Tuition
• I tutored three A-level students through French, English and Arabic Oxford applications. I gave advice on entrance examinations, personal statements, and submission of written work and led practice interviews. All three were offered places; two with their choice of subjects and the other, who applied for Italian and French, received an offer for French Sole. This was the subject I was helping her with; she had another tutor aiding her with her Italian application.
• I helped students with their personal statements for a wide variety of subjects including French, English, History, Maths, Sociology, Architecture, Anthropology, French and Italian, PPE and Law. I am yet to hear back from most of these pupils, however, I do know that one of these students, who I also have regular English lessons with, got offers from all her chosen universities, (Durham, St Andrews, Edinburgh, UCL and Sheffield).
• I helped one student, who was studying architecture at Bath university and wanted to move, gain a place at UCL; which is a particularly competitive and prestigious course.

2015- present A level Tuition
• I tutored a student in French A level. She received an A, narrowly missing out on an A* (because she missed an 8 mark question on the back!). She also achieved 58/60 in her oral and went on to study French at Oxford.
• I am currently tutoring an A2 Ukrainian student at boarding school in the UK in English literature. We have been working together for a year on both exam work and coursework. The marks that she is now getting for her essays in class have risen considerably - taking her from D to B grade. I am confident that with exams this summer we shall be able to achieve an A grade together.
• I gave one student an intensive 2 hour prep session before his TSA Exam.
• I helped another student achieve the A she needed for her choice university in both French and English A level.

2015- present GSCE and 16+
• I took a student in French GSCE from predicted D to A, and another from predicted B to A*.
• I tutored a Russian girl in English lit and language, with some EFL where needed, and managed to get her into all of her chosen schools, she decided to take a place at Cheltenham Ladies which was her top choice.
• I tutored a 15+ Russian boy for French and English sixth form entrance, he is still waiting to hear back from a few schools but thus far has gained entrance to St Edwards and Wellington College.
• I am currently tutoring a year 11 student in IGSCE French and English. His level is currently on the B/A borderline but I am confident that by exam time, he should be able to gain A*s in both these subjects.
• I homeschooled a student in French and Spanish IGSCE, she achieved A*s in both, with 93/100 in French and 98/100 in Spanish.

2015- present 13+
• I tutored a student through Common entrance for 13+ who got into his choice school (Wellington).
• I am currently helping two Chinese students prep for 13+ English for entrance into English boarding schools.
• I helped a student in Dubai with Arabic and she achieved 100 % in her end of year Arabic exam.

2015- present Adult Learning
• I taught Arabic for 6 months to an adult learner at the MET police as she was leaving to go to Cairo. By the end of our sessions together she had good basic skills and could communicate effectively. I helped another student learn some basic Arabic before her trip to Morocco.
• I tutored an opera singer in French; helping her with her French accent and understanding the language to enable her to improve her singing.

2016- present Assessments
• I also carry out assessments for GSCE, A-level and all entrance exams to assess what areas that particular student needs to work on.

I have also taught English to adults (in Cairo I ran weekly English classes for Egyptians) and run weekly art classes for Oxford undergraduates.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that you learn best when you are enjoying yourself and seeing progress. Confidence comes as a result of this. I build my pupils’ confidence so they can excel. My techniques are catered to the individual student’s needs and are as creative and flexible as possible to ensure she or he flourishes. I look to understand how each student learns best and develop his or her independent learning skills.

With students preparing for examinations I work systematically through the curriculum, improving weaknesses and building on strengths. I offer targeted exam practise and develop effective revision strategies to ensure success. I also offer support and guidance for University and Oxbridge applications.
