Personal Description:

My name is Becky, and a year ago I received my first class honours degree in Zoology, from Durham University.
I am now based in Penryn from mid-September onwards, undertaking my MSc in Conservation and Biodiversity with Exeter University.
I have a strong background in science, having achieved good A levels in all three sciences, and then having gone on to continue my further education in Biological Sciences, where my passion lies.
I am looking to start professionally tutoring for science subjects, and would love the opportunity to help develop the knowledge and interests of others.

Tutoring Experience:

Although I have no formal teacher training, I have plenty of more informal teaching experience.
I volunteered at an after-school club for many months at a local primary school, and have also helped out at summer kid's clubs in my local village and whilst at university in Durham, where I passed a full CRB check. Teaching was important in the kid's clubs when the children were learning new skills for the variety of activities which were undertaken.
Throughout my own formal education I spent time helping my peers with their work, and this helped me develop a greater understanding of how others learn. I feel that I can use these skills effectively to help tutor students at GCSE, A level and beyond, having also assisted with adult learning, when teaching people how to use computers and the internet at community events in my job role.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the level and current knowledge of the student, and which areas require particular focus, I would prepare appropriate lesson plans and materials in advance to ensure effective learning. I believe interaction is key, so will ask as well as welcome questions on topics at hand. A relatively informal and supportive approach will help keep students engaged and interested, and from experience I know that finding day-to-day relevance in the subject matter is key and will help focus learning.
