Personal Description:

I am an 18 year old student who is in the first year of university. I am studying Psychology (Clinical). I have completed my A-Levels, but I am also able to help tutor tutees who are completing qualifications other than A-Levels.

I have chosen to be a tutor because I remember preparing for my GCSE's and A-Levels and valuing the extra help tutors give to their tutees and it makes a difference in terms of confidence in the work you do.

Tutoring Experience:

I have mentored students ranging from ages 7 to 12. I help students with reading as well as any other help that they require from me such as help with personal statements, CVs help with coursework content etc. I am also training to be a therapeutic play volunteer where I will be working with children of different ages from different backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer it if the tutee visits my house for the sessions as this would allow me to tutor other tutees on the same day if required (NOTE: Travelling costs will not be reimbursed). Sessions would be much more productive if the tutee contacted me a minimum of 2 days before the timed session and inform me on what they are having trouble with. This will allow me with adequate time to prepare for the session.

When being a tutor, it is important to understand the tutee and find out the best way to ensure that they have a productive session. This can only be accomplished by finding out the best way a tutee is able to focus and process information. It is therefore essential not to force my beliefs and revision skills onto the tutee but to identify the best way they learn and then work with them to enhance these skills. Studying for my degree and my previous qualifications put me in a position where I not only have knowledge of a range of subjects but I have learned organisational and essay writing skills. This is not only relevant to higher education but also to the world of work. I can also help the tutee with time management skills which is important in order to succeed in many exams and anything else they require.
