My name is Ramon and I am currently working full time as fraud analyst within the insurance industry, prior to this I was working as a Research Analyst at one of the world's leading market research companies. Both jobs involved number crunching and so I don't mean to blow my own horn but I consider myself to be pretty good with numbers!
I graduated with a First Class honours in Mathematics and Statistics and then obtained an MSc in Mathematical Modelling from UCL, so yeah.... numbers are definitely my forte!
I have worked in two different schools as a teaching assistant in London where I was helping GCSE and A level students in areas that they were struggling with. This included advance level mathematics to individuals on a 1-1 basis and a large group of students.
Moreover I have been giving private tuition lesson for the past 4 years to ages 16+, thus am aware of how to communicate technical topics in a way that suits the needs of each individual student.
Having undertook the SAS (Student Associate Scheme) I have confidence in my abilities to teach students with varying learning needs for them to reach their highest potential.
All my previous tutees have achieved a minimum of an A grade, and majority of them have gone on to study A level maths.
I adapt my teaching style to suit each individual student to maximise student participation and learning. An essential aspect of that is completing the homework on a regular basis, this is key and is very important. I am available by phone outside my scheduled teaching session to help the student with their homework if need be.
Generally my approach to teaching is to consolidate the basic knowledge of the student and then move onto the more advanced topics at a suitable pace (varies for different students).
From my teaching experience so far, I have noticed that there is a steep learning curve initially as the students begin to grasp the fundamental concepts. Following on from this, as the student becomes more confident they will naturally transition to the more advanced concepts and I will facilitate this process.
