Online History and English (Foreign Language) Teacher

I have recently graduated from Oxford with my Masters in History of Art and Visual Art. I am also a graduate from the Courtauld Institute of Art, where I completed my BA in 2015. My degrees have provided me with a broad knowledge of art history, during my final years I specialised in Modern Art with a focus on Surrealism and Italian Futurism.

Tutoring Experience

I have spent time tutoring undergraduates in History of Art previously on a range of topics and have spent a little bit of time advising History A-Level students. A few years ago I lived in Italy and also have experience with tutoring English as a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach

I always follow a tailored approach when tutoring and it is important to consider the specific academic aims of tutees. This involves discussing exactly what assistance a tutee may need from helping with homework and developing essential reading and writing skills, or more advanced assistance like improving textual/visual analysis, essay writing skills, and preparing for various exams.

My tutoring with university students has mainly involved help with essay writing skills, like focusing on structure, improving written fluency and developing line of arguments. I also focus on the familiarisation and detailed analysis of key art historical texts that form the basis of our discipline, this helps students with their own writing but also encourages them to develop a critical eye.

Exam preparation is a key part of studying and I work with my tutees on essential techniques such as time management, structured writing and revision techniques. I also enjoy discussing and developing line of arguments with tutees. I do this by consulting past exam papers and course handbooks so that students can feel prepared and succeed in exams.

Above all, I like to help students to achieve their full potential and to create a positive attitude to studying Art History, History and English. It is important that tutees feel confident with their writing and exam preparation techniques and I aim to assist with developing this confidence.
