Rachel is a graduate from Cambridge University and has been tutoring for more than three years, from children at primary level to adults preparing to apply as mature students for University.

An Academic and Drama Scholar, Rachel attended Brighton College where she attained GCSEs: 8A* 1A and A Levels: English Literature A*, Government and Politics A*, Theatre Studies A, History A. She then earned her place at University graduating in 2014 with a BA Honours in English Literature (2.1).

Whilst Rachel is British born and educated, she has lived in the US and Singapore as well as the UK. She has also taught in Barcelona and Sri Lanka. The latter role involved Rachel spending three months teaching children English aged 8-16 years in Sri Lanka. Rachel has also worked with very young children in nurseries (Hopscotch Nursery and Pied Piper Children’s Group) and in private homes.

Tutoring Experience

Rachel’s most intensive tuition assignment was living in with a family in Barcelona for six months acting as tutor and mentor to the three children aged 6, 11 and 12 years. Learning disabilities included ADHD, autism and partial deafness so Rachel adapted her tutoring style to maximise the potential of each child. Much of this residential tutoring assignment involved learning through play and Rachel creating activities to stimulate the children’s minds away from a desk.

Rachel currently tutors five young people in London aged 7-17, largely in English but also in mathematics.

Tutoring Approach

Whilst English is Rachel’s specialist subject, she also offers tuition in Maths, History, Politics, Theatre Studies and Spanish as well as instruction in singing, piano and cello. Rachel recognises the fact that her academic success centred on developing a strong set of core study skills. Juggling a degree, Women’s officer role at Fitzwilliam College and heavy theatre involvement at Cambridge, Rachel mastered the art of time management and workload prioritization to ensure her days were as efficient and productive as possible. She enjoys working with students to help develop their executive functioning, organisation and exam technique in order to use their time wisely.
