Information About Rachel - Pinner tutor
This is how a referee rated Rachel:
I moved to Harrow from a small town near Manchester 8 years ago to take my first teaching job. I miss the football season tickets but otherwise I love living here.
I became a teacher after working for the DWP at the Job Centre and realised how important literacy is to career opportunities. I could make a difference. With each of my students I aim to help them realise their full potential and arm them with the tools to successfully communicate and interpet ideas through the study of English Language and Literature.
I gained my PGCE in English and Drama in 2011 and secured a secondary school teaching post in Harrow. Here I teach English at key stages 3 and 4. I am responsible for managing the Key Stage 4 (GCSE) curriculum within the department.
In addition, I am an examiner for the WJEC English Literature exam and have 4 years experience in this role.
Although I have a personal love of studying English Language and Literature, I realise this is not the case for everyone. In my lessons I aim to promote appreciation of English and make learning accessible. Every student has individual needs and resources/learning styles should be adapted accordingly.
As a facillitator of learning I work on building confidence with existing skills and knowledge and stretching students to achieve over and above their expected level of attainment.
