Personal Description:

I have a certificate of education in English Literature/Disability Studies, and am currently working towards an English degree with the Open University. I'm a support worker for adults with disabilites and the elderly, and a mum to 4 children, the youngest of whom is four, and the eldest nineteen.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked as a classroom assistant giving extra help to children preparing for sats, and to sen pupils including those with adhd and on the autism spectrum. I have worked with large groups and on a one to one basis, from Y3 to Y6.
I have also used my love of English Literature to coach my own children towards their GCSEs, and the children of friends (I have most experience with Y7 - Y9). I enjoy teaching English to all levels and ages, and can help those whose first language is not English.
I offer the chance to learn to read music, and also I can proof-read essays with students to help present their knowledge in the best way and maximise marks (I currently provide this service to 2 students, one on a social-work masters degree and one on a nursing degree).

Tutoring Approach:

I see potential in every student, and work with their learning styles - I always emphasise that if he or she hasn't understood something then we can find a different approach until they do! I give lots of encouragement and positive feedback, and set realistic targets, plotting progress so the pupil can see his or her improvement. Everyone is different and has different needs/aims, and as a personal tutor, I can provide the tailor-made approach to compliment what is being learned in the classroom.
