I have a diploma in English Literature/Disability Studies, and am currently working towards an English degree with the Open University. I'm a support worker for adults with disabilites and the elderly, and a mum to 4 children, the youngest of whom is four, and the eldest nineteen.
I have worked as a classroom assistant giving extra help to children preparing for sats, and to sen pupils including those with adhd and on the autism spectrum. I have worked with large groups and on a one to one basis, from Y3 to Y6.
I have also used my love of English Literature to coach my own children towards their GCSEs, and the children of friends (I have most experience with Y7 - Y9). Please note I am only offering English Lit tutoring at Y7-Y9 level, and literacy at primary and adult levels.
I see potential in every student, and work with their learning styles - I always emphasise that if he or she hasn't understood something then we can find a different approach until they do! I give lots of encouragement and positive feedback, and set realistic targets, plotting progress so the pupil can see his or her improvement. Everyone is different and has different needs/aims, and as a personal tutor, I can provide the tailor-made approach which isn't always available in the classroom.
