I have a First Class Honours degree in Microbiology and Immunology and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Newcastle University.
I am patient, friendly and able to tailor the style of my tutoring to the age and learning needs of each individual student. I am married with two primary-aged children.
I come from an academic background, as opposed to teaching, and therefore have an extensive knowledge of biology at all levels. I have experience of working with children and young people of all ages and I am a qualified teaching assistant. I am married to a Doctor, and so have knowledge and insight into medical school applications and exams.
As a PhD student, I mentored undergraduate bioscience students, assisting with practicals, essay writing and exam technique. Since leaving university, I have tutored several medical students and A-level students, with great results. Now that my own children are at school, I have more time to devote to tutoring.
My style of tutoring is tailored specifically to each student. I have tutored some students who struggle to grasp the basic concepts and so need to be re-taught the syllabus. Other tutees just need some help converting their knowledge into effective answers, and therefore I concentrate on exam technique using past papers.
