I am an approachable and friendly teacher who is committed to ensuring that all students I teach and tutor achieve their full potential. I am driven by my own passion for both English Literature and Language and hope to pass this enjoyment of the subject onto my students. I enjoy working with teenagers and young adults to develop their reading and writing skills and love seeing not only the results they can achieve academically, but also the confidence this gives them.
I have over eight years classroom experience as a teacher of English, during which time I have been dedicated to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to reach their targets in KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have an excellent record of achieving results at both GCSE and A Level, with the majority of my students achieving or exceeding their targets. In my current school, I hold managerial positions as Assistant Head of English and Whole-School Literacy Coordinator which means that I lead staff members in developing teachings strategies and plan/manage the teaching of the English GCSE and A Level courses. In addition to this, I have two years experience as a GCSE examiner for WJEC English Literature.
I believe that tutoring should be pupil-led and therefore tailored to not only the academic needs of the individual student but also they way in which they learn. I am friendly and approachable in my teaching and work hard to ensure that work is relatable for all students. I believe it is important to teach (if applicable to student), exam technique in addition to course content to ensure students build confidence and skills in preparation for upcoming examinations.
