This is how 2 referees rated Philip:
I graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in engineering, was employed as a consultant engineer before qualifying as a mathematics teacher. I worked extremely successfully in two maintained and one independent schools before retiring as the Head of Department in an independent school; and finally I am now working part-time in a third maintained school. I have obviously taught for many years with consistent successes from Year 7 through to GCSE in Year 11 and A-level mathematics and further mathematics in Year 13.
As a working teacher I have a full CRB check.
I completely retire in August 2014, so will be available most days.
I have tutored pupils intermittently throughout my teaching career; almost entirely at the behest of friends and acquaintances or indeed their friends and acquaintances.
These sessions have ranged from the preparation for 11+ Entrance Examinations to A-level further mathematics. As I am now completely retired I have more time available for tutoring.
Invariably, though not exclusively, and the reasons may be varied, a pupil may have temporarily lost confidence in the subject. The immediate aim is to rebuild and re-establish this confidence. Once this has been done then weaknesses, if not already known, can be identified, acted upon and then real progress can usually be made.
