This is how 2 referees rated Philip:
I am a busy and passionate teacher of Geography with a love for the outdoors and sports. I enjoy travelling and last summer, I spent 7weeks travelling around Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia. I am also a keen runner and will be running the London Marathon in 2017. I feel like I am a very busy person and as a result, only take on several tutees per year. This allows me to support the individual needs of each tutee and ensure that they achieve above and beyond what the expect.
I studied Geography at the University of Leeds and started the Teach First graduate scheme in 2012. After the first year of this scheme, I became the Head of Geography, overseeing teaching and assessment at KS3-5. I moved to London in 2014 and have since taught at a top ten private school, which was also the Good Times Guide Best independent School in 2015.
I am enthusiastic about Geography and try to help students build and an appreciation and sense of interest towards the subject. This supports each student to think about the bigger picture and to consider a broad range of ideas. Where possible, I am exam focused and try to direct each student to apply what they have learnt to specific questions. I like to prepare before tuition and will often find interesting videos, articles, or ideas that can be used to direct learning. Please look at my references if you would like a greater understanding of my impact to date. my highlights have been:
13 year old tutee was awarded the Westminster scholarship for academic excellence (2016)
18 year old tutee increased grade from E - B and accessed his first choice university (2016)
17 year old tutee gained an A* grade after being predicted a C (2016)
