I am a passionate teacher of 15 years with a love of the arts and of making a positive contribution to the learning of the children in my care. I use humour and a versatile approach to teaching to break down barriers to learning. I am a fun-loving person who engages fully in the learning journey with my pupils. I particularly enjoy creating, upcycling using sea glass, rambling with my dogs, exploring the Lakes, photography and playing bass guitar. I also appreciate peaceful time doing yoga and meditation.
I have taught in inner-city settings, rural communities and in those with high proportions of pupil premium and special needs pupils. I have just completed five years at a school in Barrow in Furness and enjoy leading my Creative Youth group and being involved in extra-curricular opportunities for the children. I have taught in all primary cohorts as Class Teacher, furthermore I began my career working alongside a Year Nine pupil.
My love of teaching and being able to assist children improve their skills, attitudes and self-esteem is immediately apparent. I have a number of testimonials from parents of children whom I have taught and also from colleagues and local artists I have collaborated with. I can incorporate youth mindfulness and visualisations to alleviate anxiety; my last teaching role was as an art/creative therapist in a pastoral role, whereby children could share their fears and feel safe creating/being expressive in a supportive setting. I am proud of the positive influence my teaching methods have had on my pupils, whether it be supporting educational, behavioural or emotional needs. I am easy-going, amiable and make teaching sessions fun.
