Information About Philip - Leeds tutor - (14 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Philip:
I have always had a passion for Science, solving problems and understanding how things work. I have been able to apply my interests by working in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries; by Clinical Research into cancer and rheumatism; and passing on this knowledge through teaching. In laboratory work I have separated chemicals and proteins and quantified them using various analytical instruments. I have a good knowledge of protein mass spectroscopy, immunology, enzyme assays and inhibition. On a personal note, I enjoy sport, making models and family life with my wife and three grown up children.
I have 12 years full time teaching followed by six years as a supply teachers and a personal tutor. I have taught all three Sciences up to GCSE and A level Chemistry throughout. I have also taught five A level Biology tutees, and I am confident with aspects of A level Physics, as I have taught this on supply and to two tutees. For 14 years, I have been an examiner and team leader in Chemistry working for a leading Examinations Board. Before being a teacher I had 15 years in Clinical/Biochemical/Pharmaceutical/Chemical research and analysis, and lecturing and of laboratory supervision.
I offer tuition in Science and A level Chemistry, but can diversify into aspects of A level Physics or Biology if required and have done so for some tutees. I am versed in exam techniques and use past papers to identify student's weaknesses and then explain the rationale behind the best answers to exam questions and what examiners are looking for. I use my diverse array of experience in teaching and industry to explain the importance and application of the scientific concepts being taught and relate these to the practical laboratory experience of the student. I also consider the learning preferences of the student and illustrate answers in different ways. I always put in extra time (e.g… marking work) and resources to ensure my tutees get value for money.

At first I was a little bit hesitant because I had to drop my son off to him. But when my son started the first session he was happy with the way Philip teaches. It is particularly helpful that he can teach all science subjects and he is also an examiner so has a lot of useful advice relating to exam technique.
My son worked very hard but Philip was so helpful and supportive to my son in the run up to exams, we were very pleased with his results in the 3 science subjects.
I recommend Philip for any parents who are looking for a science tutor for their child.
Thank you for your feedback (and plant). I look forward to tutoring your son with his A levels .
My son liked him very much
Thank you for the positive feedback. It was a pleasure teaching H, and very entertaining at times! I am glad she has got onto the college course she wanted. I wish her all the best at College and in the future. Keep in touch.
Phil was definitely instrumental in helping my son achieve an A in his A level chemistry this year (2017). Up until year 13 my son had always been an excellent student in chemistry however in year 13 he started to struggle with some of the course material. This resulted in his confidence and enthusiasm for chemistry plummeting and his grades falling to an average C grade. As he needed an A grade in chemistry to secure his university place we called Phil in. Phil spend about four sessions with my son going over the areas in the syllabus my son was struggling with and working through past exam papers to improve his overall knowledge and exam technique. Phil always came to the sessions very well prepared and his broad and in-depth knowledge of chemistry ensured that he could address any question about chemistry my son asked. Even after the first session I could see that my son had regained some of his confidence in the subject and had renewed determination to do well.
Thank you Phil for enabling my son to secure his place at Oxford. I know without your help chemistry would have remained his Achilles heel.
Great results for M
I wish him all the best for his future and good luck at Oxford.
Many Thanks - hope G does really well
We'll keep up the good work
Phil's manner is informal but professional and thorough - he is able to create rapport and keep the student engaged even when they are worn out after a day at school!
We have seen an improvement in grades from a D at AS to a point where a B looks achievable at A level, so are happy to recommend Phil as a tutor.
Many thanks for the positive feedback, but lets not stop at grade B! - Better tell J!
Thank you for your kind comments. It was great for your Daughter to do so well. It bodes well for the future and good luck to her in what she does.
Many thanks for the positive feedback.
I wish Hannah every success with her exams.
Thank you very much for the excellent feedback. It is appreciated greatly. I look forward to you getting back in touch next month or so for Casey's top ups. Let me have any of the essay material for marking when it is ready.
Kind regards to you all,
