This is how 2 referees rated Phil:
I am based near Crewe in Cheshire and I have taught Physics at a variety of levels for over 25 years. I have two teenage children so hopefully I have a pretty good idea of what it is you're going through when it comes to school/college! In my spare time I play the guitar, try and and go to the gym from time to time, and enjoy sport, film and photography.
I am currently Head of Physics at a College in Cheshire, where I teach AS and A Level Physics. I achieve excellent success rates with my classes and my teaching is highly regarded, obtaining very high grades in lesson observations. In 2015-16, which was the first year of the new A Level specifications, we achieved a pass rate of 90% in Physics, with 50% A-C grades. I have also taught Year 7 to 13 Science/Physics at a Comprehensive School, and prior to that I was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leeds for 17 years, where I taught a variety of Physics courses at all levels, and carried out research in Polymer Physics and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
I recognise that from the student's point of view, having a personal tutor can initially be a somewhat daunting prospect! I have a lot of experience of 1:1 tutoring from my University career, and I will do my best to put you at ease and make the sessions relaxing, enjoyable and rewarding. It is helpful if you are proactive in identifying the areas where you are struggling, and what it is you find difficult and don't understand - remember there is no such thing as a silly question! I understand that your main objective is to acquire the skills needed to be successful in examinations, and I will help you achieve that, but I will also explain things within the broader context of Physics and communicate the interest I have for the subject. You will find my approach particularly beneficial if you are an A level student hoping to study Physics at University.
I am also an examiner for exam boards AQA (A Level Physics) and Edexcel (BTEC) which helps me focus on the important parts of a topic related to exams.
