I am a PE specialist and have worked within the secondary sector for 12 years. My passion for sport has driven me in life and has resulted in some exciting opportunities both home and abroad. I believe sport & physical education builds character and develops skills that benefit all walks of life.
I am currently in my 13th year of secondary school teaching. I have taught GCSE PE for 12 years, BTEC Sport for 8 years and OCR Sports Studies for 2. In 12 years of GCSE PE teaching, 239 of my 253 students have either met their target grade or exceeded it. In the 8 years of BTEC and 2 years of OCR Sports Studies 100% of my students have passed reaching then minimum of their target grades. I have also been Head of PE and more recently Head of Years 10 & 11 for the last 9 years.
My approach to tutoring is to build an open and relaxed atmosphere based on trust where everything is about learning. The open communication is key as taking risks and making mistakes often supports the process of learning and remembering more than "getting it right" every time. I like to contextualise the content to the real world as this makes it "real" to the students and more memorable for exams. Leading up to exams I focus on preparing students as best I can by revisiting past exam papers and picking them apart to build confidence.
