I am a theoretical physicist/mathematician, having worked in academic research, government and industry for over 35 years, and I have provided private tuition since 2007, almost full time since 2013.
As a postgraduate, I supported the undergraduate teaching program via tuition in both the classroom and the laboratory.
As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, I supported the undergraduate teaching program in Electrical Engineering through being responsible for a tutor group in maths and physics in each undergraduate year.
Since 2007, I have tutored many individuals through GCSE and A level maths, physics and chemistry. More recently, having retired from industry, I have continued to provide regular private tuition at GCSE, AS/A2 and in further education.
I adopt an informal approach for one-on-one tuition. The principal aim, beginning with the national curriculum, is to teach concepts, and to ensure that they are received and properly understood. This involves encouraging students to be enquiring and creative. Worked examples and, if possible, relevant past papers form the basis of the path to success at exam time.
