Information About Peter Marshall - Wetherby tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Peter Marshall:
I am an enthusiastic, friendly, and passionate musician, pianist and composer. My main study instrument is the piano, an instrument which I first began learning at the age of four. Since then, I have had a long and illustrious musical career which has seen me through both school and University. I completed a degree in Music at the University of Sheffield, from which I was also awarded the Mrs Stewart Blake Recital Prize (awarded to the student with the highest overall grade in all of the final year recitals). More recently, I chose to undergo a Masters degree in Composition of Music for Film & Television at the University of Bristol, from which I learned the art of writing music for film. In my spare time, I regularly compose for film and other sources of visual media. In 2012, I graduated from the International Piano Course at the Royal College of Music in London, where I studied under renowned pianists Gordon Fergus Thompson, Ian Jones, and Andrew Zolinsky.
I am passionate about all avenues of music for the piano, be that classical, contemporary, latin or jazz; I offer private tuition in all styles of piano performance. I have gained the following grades in Piano Performance:
- Grades 1-8 in Classical Piano (ABRSM).
- Grades 1-5 in Jazz Piano (ABRSM).
With regard to Composition, I have been composing since a very young age and chose to continue this interest at both school and University. I undertook numerous Composition modules and was consequently chosen to compose for the Sheffield Rep Orchestra. In addition, whilst studying for my Masters in Film Composition, I wrote for the renowned Bristol Ensemble Orchestra and composed on a daily basis to a number of different briefs. More recently, I wrote the music for a short BBC documentary and also arranged some music for primetime ITV.
I also offer lessons in conducting. I undertook several conducting modules at both Sheffield and Bristol University and have been fortunate enough to conduct orchestras such as the Bristol Ensemble, and the University of Sheffield Chamber Orchestra. In addition, I have been a musical director for much of my music career; I have conducted choirs and smaller ensembles and was also the Assistant Musical Director for 'Annie', performed at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
Aside from music, I am a big sports fan but also love to cook and spend time with my friends & family!
Over the years, I have worked with children, young adults and adults in both private and group situations.
I believe that music can be learned and picked up by anybody at any age, and any ability. Music is an integral part to everyday life and it is my belief that more people should welcome more music into their lives. Learning an instrument teaches people to not take the gift of music for granted, that there is a meaning and a purpose behind every note. I take great pleasure in sharing my music with others and believe that more people should be exposed to different genres of music, particularly classical and contemporary classical.
I believe that finding the right tutor is difficult. Through my experience, I have learned that despite somebody's experience and knowledge, if you are not a personable character willing to excel and For this reason, I like to create a fun and relaxing environment for my pupils to learn in, whilst still maintaining an element of strong encouragement and support in order for them to achieve the best possible results. I aim to bring out the best in everybody and nurture people's individual talents and aptitudes to learn.
I offer tuition to people of ALL ages and abilities, and am happy and willing to forward my pupils for graded examinations.
