I am a fully qualified mathematics teacher and GCSE examiner. I live just outside Lancaster with my wife and 3 children. I have a first class honours degree and secondary PGCE in Mathematics and started my working career in the electronics industry before entering the teaching profession.
I have worked full time in a very successful Lancashire secondary school for 21 years until August 2017. I have taught all abilities from year 7 to year 13. At A level I specialised in Core and Statistics and regularly taught decision mathematics and mechanics including to Oxbridge candidates undertaking Further Mathematics.
My teaching responsibilities included running a department of 11 Mathematics teachers and I was also irresponsible for implementing curriculum developments throughout Key Stage 4 and 5. I specialised in working with students with specific learning needs.
I am a GCSE examiner working for a number of boards including OCR, AQA and Edexcel.
I have tutored students from primary to first year degree standard. The students I have tutored have all become much more confident learners and have said how much their other subjects have gained from their improvement in Mathematics. My students have benefitted from a wide variety of teaching resources and I feel my experience enables me to target the lessons to get the best results for my students. I believe in a relaxed atmosphere which reduces anxiety and let's the students demonstrate their true ability but still challenges them.
