Information About Peter - Sale tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Peter:
I have a Masters degree and PhD in Maths. I have always been fascinated by the subject and enjoy helping students of all abilities achieve their potential.
My interest in tutoring started when I was in Sixth Form and fellow students would sometimes ask me for help on an informal basis. I very much enjoyed then, as I do now, the `Eureka' moment when a student understands a concept which has been difficult for them.
I took Maths and Further Maths at A-Level, obtaining two A grades. The exams were modular, very similar in format to those taken by current A-level students. In my spare time, I enjoy playing chess.
At university, when studying for my PhD, I had a part-time role assisting lecturers in undergraduate classes. When students were struggling I would talk with them on a one-to-one basis, focusing on improving their understanding as much as possible so that they would discover the answer for themselves.
As a private tutor, I have had great success in helping students improve their grades, whatever their ability.
My students have given me excellent feedback and many new students have come to me on personal recommendation. I have references and letters of appreciation which can be seen on request.
When I first meet a student, I invite them to discuss their strengths/weaknesses in maths and what they hope to achieve, and I welcome any questions they have about me. My patient approach helps students to become more confident in their abilities. I listen to the student's needs, following up on problems they may have.
Although practising mathematical methods is crucial, I also explain background concepts to give the student a more thorough grasp of the subject. As well as going through past exam papers, I advise students of good exam technique and help them avoid the common mistakes noted by examiners.
