My unique combination of special needs MEd in Maths, science and English and an MSc, together with my interests and experience have forged a holistic, pragmatic approach to tutoring. I have worked in the food industry and abroad before becoming a teacher. I have also worked in food QA recently. My roles included scientific research, technical management and scientific publishing. My abilities in teaching, numeracy, literacy, science and industry, mould my eclectic approach. I draw on all of my experience to inform my methods and technique. I choose to teach for the obvious satisfaction that it brings. Subjects I naturally enjoy are Sciences, Maths, English and of course Business Studies. I teach most ages. I teach Summer Business English, Public Speaking and English as a Foreign Language too. My classes are fun, so long as they are not too large and I get most satisfaction from one-to-one tutoring due to the privilege of making a difference and being part of a student’s individual progress.
My teaching experience has grown in all my areas of interest, principally in the local area over twenty years or so. I managed an international dept of three courses, where I taught EFL, Maths &Business Studies. I worked in Sixth form as a key skills and International coordinator; I taught A level Maths, EFL and moderated science at The University of Exeter; I give one to one assistance in GCSE science; teaching at Primary school I gained a high merit for my MEd. I provide English support to international executives and students both as a tutor and in classes.
I have taught business in classes and outside school, and in Young Enterprise.
I recently taught Primary Science and Sixth form Business in two schools. I ran a very successful speaking club for 12 years.
I prefer to get to know my client by discussing their educational history, confidence problems, interests and other motivational aspects.
I assess them with a range of tests, both of their ability, capability and emotional response to the work.
I regularly provide an update of areas I expect progress to be made in and how. I highlight weaknesses as well as strengths and do all of this with sensitivity and constructive criticism. Aspirations are key alongside the support of each student’s family.
